Abstract
Polarization mode dispersion plays main role in limitation of transmission bit rate for optical fiber links. Phenomenon is caused by birefringence of fibers as well as by partial coherency of light passing through the fibers. The same problem arises in relatively long sensing fiber in polarimetric fiber sensors. Then dynamics of the sensors depend on length and birefringence of the fiber and also on coherency of light passing through sensing fiber. The polarization mode dispersion may be diminished by compensation of birefringence of sensing and transmitting fibers. In the paper an analysis of compensation configuration of the fibers for partially coherent light is carried out. The analysis is based on application of Mueller-Stokes method with additional depolarization matrix introduced due to limited coherency of light passing through the fibers. As a result of the analysis some conclusions regarding parameters of compensations configurations of the fibers are discussed.
