Abstract

Optical technologies strengthen the competitiveness of modern economy and create sustainable jobs for the future. The German government is therefore strongly committed to supporting corresponding research and the conversion of results from these efforts into marketable products in the relevant fields. In order for optical technologies to fully benefit both economy and society, efforts from two sides are required: On the one hand, research areas full of promise for innovations and their implementation in industry and economy must be promoted in a goal-oriented manner. On the other hand, the right political framework has to be created.
