Abstract

Confocal microscopy uses the principle of optical sectioning to allow imaging through scattering media such as biological tissue. However, there are other alternative methods that overcome some limitations of confocal microscopy. These include multiphoton microscopy, low coherence interferometry. The basic principles of three-dimensional imaging can be applied to compare the performance of these different approaches.
