Innovative intraocular lens implants
Acri.Tec GmbH
Abstract
In the case of cataract the natural crystalline lens of the human eye will be surgically exchanged by an intraocular lens (IOL). Today, there exist several types of lens implants with different material characteristics, surface finishing and haptik designs as well as with various functional properties. Especially the loss of accommodation can be compensated in some way by using innovative multifocal or accommodative IOLs. The imaging quality can be optimized by using new aspherical and toroidal lenses considering the spherical aberration and astigmatism of the cornea. The function and efficiency of these different types of IOLs as well as their dependence on pre-operative biometric accuracy and post-operative IOL location and some aspects of IOL production will be discussed. Furthermore, ophthalmic implants with electronic sensors for measuring the intraocular eye pressure and veterinary intraocular lenses will be presented.
