Abstract

The story of optical 3D-sensing is a story of success. Driven by physical and information theoretical insight, a variety of sensors is now available to acquire data from the nanometer- to the meter regime. Driven by the customer, however, the researcher and developer experiences his daily Waterloo, trying to meet the ever increasing requirements: Robustness on any kind of surface! Space-bandwidth!! Speed!!! We will discuss these - and other - limits by means of practical examples, and we will present a couple of novel solutions that approach the customers aims - well aware that the customer will never be satisfied.
