High sensitivity optical detector with inbuild filtration which is intended for use in visible light communication

Abstract

This paper deals with design of an optical detector intended for VLC systems which are supposed to be used widely. Design of the optical detector with the application specific feedback filtration is presented. The main feature of this detector is wide dynamic range and high sensitivity for specific carrier frequency. The high sensitivity, while keeping the wide dynamic range, is ensured by means of using a frequency selective feedback and variable DC level compensation in detector circuit design. New circuit design is measured and laboratory tested. The advantages and disadvantages of different detectors are presented and detector types are assigned to their most appropriate VLC application.
