Abstract

Nowadays embedded diffraction gratings are very useful in waveguide applications as reflective, to spread light modes, and transmission gratings, to guide modes into the waveguide. Improving the diffraction efficiency of a particular order in the waveguide is of high importance too. We consider reflective gratings and investigate the dependency of the reflection efficiency on the shape of the gratings, rectangular, sawtooth and triangular gratings. We also investigate the dependency of the efficiency on the polarization of the light source for each grating shape. Finally two programs were written, one for a general binary grating and another for a generalized triangular grating interface to further investigate and optimize the efficiencies of the reflection orders.
