Photonics technologies in neuro and ophthalmic surgery

Abstract
Photonics technologies have become a strong driver of medical innovations and help improving and saving peoples life. The market is strongly driven by the global megatrends demographic change and digitalization. Photonics technologies in medicine can be divided into two areas: first, where photons are used to image, sense or diagnose tissue and second therapeutic applications, where photons are used to cut or ablate tissue. This talk focuses on neuro and ophthalmic surgery and gives an overview of products and research activities in these two areas: surgical microscopes, fluorescence technologies, optical coherence tomography, confocal endomicroscopy and refractive ophthalmic surgery.
