Abstract

Light beam-shaping is performed using several methods. In the field of optical illumination, the integration method has been proved to be an efficient method for achieving a high degree of homogenized luminous intensity distribution by integrating and superimposing the light energy over the illuminated objects. On the other hand, in the field of signal lighting, light intensity distribution must meet the requirements regarding the brightness perception of users not the illumination of the objects. In this work, the integration method is used for designing a secondary optical refractive lens-array for signal lighting application. Design procedures are explained in detail, presenting the importance of considering the principle of energy conservation. Finally, the optical performance of the lens-array is investigated by using a numerical simulation of optical ray tracing.
