Abstract

Conventional photogrammetric three-dimensional metrology based on the extraction of corresponding temporal image features whereby a DMD or LCoS projector projects a time-coded sequence of patterns requires the accurate geometric calibration of imaging devices in order to obtain accurate surface topology measurements. The development and usage of non-DMD/LCoS based projectors for high-speed three-dimensional measurements, where image production is not due to a projection chip, are highly challenging to calibrate geometrically thus requiring a stereo-camera configuration. This work presents a technique that calibrates non-DMD/LCoS based projectors and demonstrates as proof of principle the ability to generate three-dimensional measurements using only a single camera. This effectively reduces the cost, weight, and form factor of such metrology systems that utilize a non-DMD/LCoS based projector.
